On Thursday the Cycle Against Suicide Student Leaders Congress 2016 took place at the RDS. This annual event aims to help empower young adults to address some of the issues relating to suicide and promote the positive message that ‘It’s ok not to feel ok, and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help’.
Our photo shows Rebecca McDonagh and Alice Dunne (students at St Marys Holy Faith, Killester) presenting a cheque for 1,500 euro to Jim Breen , founder of Cycle Against Suicide. This amount was the result of a fund raising event in September of last year.
The Inaugural Sarah Lundberg Summer School was held last July , initiated by the East Wall History Group and the Alternative Visions Oral History Group in memory of their friend who tragically took her own life a year earlier. The subject was “Kathleen Lynn , a most Radical Woman” , celebrating the life of the Irish Revolutionary hero and medical innovator. To mark the 60th anniversary of Dr Lynns death , a memorial walk was announced , which took place in September , with money raised through sponsorship and donations. The walk was held in conjunction with ‘The Friends of Glenmalure” who maintain the youth hostel which was left by Lynn in her will, and was supported by Dublin Bus who helped get us all there !
Thanks to everybody who took part or made a donation . The video below shows the terrific and important work that is made possible by support such as this . Details of the Sarah Lundberg Summer School 2016 will be announced soon .
